I went to Africa two weeks ago!!

So, two weeks went by so fast I can’t even believe it, and so much stuff happened! I have done so many things I thought I would never do,  such as getting up in the morning on a Sunday to go to church!  That was a weird experience… and it lasted for three hours!  Everyone was so friendly and I’m glad I went there just to see how it was, but for me who do not believe in God,  it was unfortunately the most boring three hours ever. So.. it really helped to go to the crocodile ranch here in Otjiwarongo to eat some crocodile for lunch! And it tasted so good 🙂 Felt a bit weird to just eat them and not go see them, but we left that for later..

Since I do a placement abroad and going to be in a kindergarten here in Namibia,  we started our stay here with a lot of meetings.  We went to the ministry of education and the municipality of otjiwarongo to meet all the lovely people working there, to get a tour in their offices and to talk about the purpose of our stay. They gave us an official welcome to Otjiwarongo and immediately started to help us out with the  Visa.
After a long day full of meetings we, with the help of a friend,  found a place to go swimming!  When it is 37 degrees outside it’s sooo needed 🙂

With a lot of help from the municipality we finally got to go down to Windhoek last week to sort the visa issue out. After three hours at the visa office we finally got to hand in our visa application.  So now we just need to wait to get it back 🙂
After walking around and Victoria getting robbed (she still got her most important stuff) we drove back to Otjiwarongo. Five hours in the car just to sort our visa out.. but what a trip ut was. While driving we saw a couple of giraffes,  gazelles,  wild hogs and antelopes 🙂 unfortunately we didn’t have the slightest chance to take a picture – but we’ll save that for the safari!!

Before the weekend started we went to fix our hair – we got rasta! It took 6 hours,  it was a bit painful,  really heavy and it’s a bit hard to handle all the braids,  but would absolutely do it again (have to take it out after 1- 1 1/2 month) cause I absolutely love the result!!

With our new hair style we took a trip to the crocodile ranch again, and this time we got to see them getting fed! It was so many of them and they all got at least one chicken each… which smelled awful!!

We also got to hold the cutest little turtle! That tiny thing was actually pretty heavy..

I also got to spend two days in the kindergarten (gonna do a bigger post about that cause it’s so much to tell) – before I got sick 😦 got such a soar throat I had to get to a doctor, which turned out to be a good experience except for all the medication..

I got my own little pharmacy now!!
After two days in bed I’m starting to feel better which couldn’t have a better timing cause we are now preparing for a weekend in Swakopmund!! Skydiving, the coast of Namibia and the Namib desert here we come 🙂

Until next time 🙂

My first days in Namibia

So the last time I had a placement abroad I went to Beijing. At that point my blog were all in Norwegian, but after my studying abroad (in Leeds, UK, for three and a half month) I decided to write it in English, even though my written English might be shit :p But for now, I can’t believe how incredibly lucky I am because this time it’s AFRICA. I’m currently sitting in the backyard of the guesthouse I’m staying at in a small town called Otjiwarongo in Namibia  I have a placement in two different kindergartens here and gonna stay in Namibia for 80 days before traveling to Zambia for a 10 days’ vacation. That’s just beyond awesome!!

So I got here two days ago feeling super excited all the way up to the passport control at the airport in Windhoek, Namibia. My home university told me, and the three other students I’m traveling with, that we didn’t need a visa… Great… We barely got in and now we have only 14 days to get this visa shit fixed :/

Other than some major issues at the border I really enjoy being here even though it’s only been two days. Otjiwarongo is a cute small town with maybe 25-30000 citizens. We live in a guesthouse with two small “flats” and a big backyard with a living room/common area, not far away from the city centre. The city centre is super tiny with a couple of clothing and grocery stores. We haven’t explored a lot of the city yet, but we’ve heard that we will know the city like a local by the end of the week. So for the next 78 days this little place in Namibia will be our home away from home!!
